1. Which of the following is a finite set?
A. {2, 4, 6, 8, …}
B. {1, 2, 3, 4, …}
C. {… 2, 3, 5, 7}
D. {3, 6, 9, 12}
Answer: D
A finite set is one which has a finite (or definite) set of members. (A set which one can finish counting).
2. If P = {2, 3, 4, 6, 8} and Q = {1, 2, 3, 4}, find P∩Q
Solution:
P = {2, 3, 4, 6, 8}
Q = {1, 2, 3, 4}
P∩Q = {2, 3, 4}
(P∩Q = The elements that are in both P and Q)
3. A boy bought 3 pairs of socks at GH¢ 17.50 per a pair and paid with two GH¢ 50.00 notes.How much change was he given?
Solution:
Cost of 3 pairs:
= 3 × GH¢ 17.50
= GH¢ 52.50
Change:
= 2(50) – 52.50
= 100 – 52.50
= GH¢ 47.50
4. Correct 48,947.2547 to the nearest hundred.
We can safely ignore the numbers after the decimal point. So ignoring those, we are left with 48,947.
The hundreds position is where the 9 is. Now considering the value of the tens and ones we find that it is 47. Since 47 is less than 50 we round the 47 down to 00. So the answer is 48,900
5. Evaluate
